The Rock Chalk Check-in Challenge campaign’s target audience was university students who were new to campus and unfamiliar with the locations of buildings, libraries, dining locations and common areas. Participation was open to any student to an active KU student ID.
There were three objectives for the campaign:
1. Familiarize students new to campus with the wide array of resources available to them and where they were located. And, as an incentive, reward students who were repeat visitors to locations with check-in rewards including free food, flash drives, other prizes and a new KU Foursquare badge exclusive to campus check-ins.
2. Encourage students to interact more with the university’s social media channels, primarily its official Twitter feed, @kunews.
3. Establish an official university presence on an increasingly popular social media platform by becoming an active participant in the service.

The University of Kansas is a great place to be. Jayhawk Nation is consistently on the cutting edge of social media implementation as it relates to students' university experience and interactions. This Foursquare campaign was a new attempt to connect with students, and it was a huge success.
The month-long campus contest concluded with: 11,578 Foursquare check-ins on campus, which more than tripled our previous monthly levels of interaction on the service.
This campaign is just the latest in an ongoing successful social media campaign presence that further enhances student life at The University of Kansas. Between our nationally renowned Facebook page, a thriving Twitter presence and more than 500+ active departmental social media accounts on campus, this Foursquare campaign merged all this campus activity into a single campaign with broad appeal and impressive results.
